Valencia in May: why spring is the perfect time for a sober retreat

There's something about May in Valencia. The temperature is just right — warm enough to be outside, cool enough to actually move. The almond trees have long since finished blooming, but nature is at its finest. Green, fragrant, quiet. Tourists are barely here yet. And that's exactly why it's the ideal time for so many people to stop running for a while.

Not to a clinic. Not to a treatment centre. Just away. To a place where the day slows down, the food is good and nobody expects you to "fix" yourself.

Why spring feels different

Most people who consciously choose an alcohol-free or sober lifestyle know the patterns. The winter months are heavy. The holidays come and go. January starts full of good intentions, but by March the weight of routine creeps back in. Your battery still isn't really recharged.

May is the moment you can actually change that. Not with a programme or a cure, but with space. Space to walk through the hills around Torrent. To wake up without an alarm. To eat together, move and slowly settle back into a rhythm that feels good.

Being sober ≠ something is wrong with you

This is perhaps the most important thing. The people who come to Villa Torrent make a conscious choice for a sober lifestyle — not because they need to get rid of something, but because they're moving towards something. Towards clarity. Towards calm. Towards themselves.

Some have recently stopped drinking and are looking for a safe environment that doesn't feel clinical. Others are doing well but sense they're ready for a real reset — away from the noise, the stimulation, the expectations. Others come after a relapse. Not as punishment, but as a new starting point.

What they have in common? They're ready for something different.

What to expect in May

The days are long, but not hot. That makes them perfect for morning walks through the nature just outside the villa — one of the things guests mention most in their experiences. No athletic challenge, just walking. Breathing. Taking it all in.

There's also yoga, movement at your own pace, cooking and eating together, meditation and breathwork. Everything is optional. You're welcome to join, but rest is fine too. That's not an exception to the rule — that is the rule.

The group is small. A maximum of five participants. That's not a marketing pitch — it's a deliberate choice. Small groups feel safer, more personal and calmer. You don't have to explain yourself to a room full of strangers.

After the summer too

May and June are beautiful, but September and October in Valencia are just as good — perhaps even more so. Summer is over, the crowds are gone and the temperatures are perfect for being outside. For many people, autumn is the moment they realise the summer took more than it gave. That's a perfectly good reason for a second moment of slowing down.

Is this for you?

If while reading this you thought "this sounds good, but I'm not sure if it's for me" — that's exactly the thought most people have who end up coming anyway. You don't have to be certain. You just have to be curious. We host the following retreats:

1st of May - 14th of May

1st of June- 14th of June

1st of September - 14th of September

1st of October - 14th of October

1st of November - 14th of November

Feel free to send Patrick a message. No obligations, no pressure. Just a conversation to see if it feels right.
